Common questions
What is the California motorcycle (M1) knowledge test?
It's the written test for a California Class M1 motorcycle permit. It covers safe riding, lane position, braking, cornering, and protective gear. Our practice questions are based on the public California Motorcycle Handbook.
Is this motorcycle practice test free?
Yes — you get free practice rounds with instant explanations. Unlimited motorcycle practice, smart review of your weak spots, and the timed exam simulator are part of Motorcycle (M1) Pro.
Does passing the written test get me a motorcycle license?
The knowledge test is one step. California also requires a riding skills test, or completion of a California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) course, before you can be licensed. We help you pass the written portion.
Do I need the CMSP course to get my M1?
If you're under 21 — yes, it's mandatory (and you must hold the permit six months). 21+ can take CMSP or pass the DMV riding test instead.
Can I practice in my language?
PassGolden is built for the languages the California Driver Handbook is published in — English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Punjabi, Hindi, and Armenian.
